Rupprecht Geiger in Sindelfingen
Until September 16, 2018 the Museum Schauwerk Sindelfingen
is presenting the spectacular retrospective:
PINC KOMMT! Rupprecht Geiger
SCHAUWERK Sindelfingen is hosting a comprehensive retrospective of the artist, featuring works from the Schaufler Collection’s extensive stock, supplemented by numerous works from the Geiger Archive, together with other loans.
Rupprecht Geiger is one of the most important abstract artists of the German post-war avant-garde. Throughout his lifetime, colour - especially the luminosity and radiant energy of the colour red - remained the central theme of his work. Geiger explored the concept of colour fields, in which colour was applied to arouse intense sensory experiences in the viewer.
At the heart of the exhibition in SCHAUWERK is a series works created in 2001 as his entry for the São Paulo Art Biennial, and the installation Rote Trombe (Red Whirlwind) from 1985. A selection of sketches, models, diaries, pigment samples and other resources also provide a fascinating insight into the artist's methodology.
The exhibition will run from October 20, 2018 to March 3, 2019 in modified form at the Museum Gunzenhauser, Kunstsammlungen Chemnitz.
